Called to bear fruit.
As children of the Most High, we are called to bear fruit. Undoubtedly one cannot bear fruit unless he is empowered to do so. You and me become empowered when we receive knowledge, understanding and wisdom. This comes through impartation by the Holy Spirit. In the natural world, workers use their skills to perform certain tasks. When payday comes, each worker receives his wages according to the profits he brings in. Without a doubt, poor performance always means trouble for that worker.
Likewise, for us in the Kingdom there is so much for each and everyone to do. The Lord sends us out to share the word of God, pray for others and participate in church activities. The world looks to us to offer solutions and so our light should shine before men to the glory of the Father. We therefore should bear fruit and that can only happen if we are available for the Kingdom.
1st Corinthians 1:30. But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:
The branches that do not bear fruit.
In Matthew 23:1-37, Christ talks about Pharisees who were men of God never bore any fruit. In fact, they made new converts worse children of the devil than they were before being converted. Hence, they could not escape condemnation (Matthew 23:33).
On the contrary, neither did they enter into the Kingdom, nor allow any other soul to enter (Matthew 23:13).
Matthew 23:13. But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.
The Pharisees were likened to branches that did not bear fruit which eventually broken off. Consequently, the broken branches are replaced by new ones (grafting), which is a wild type of the same tree. (John 15:1-6, Romans 11:17)
John 15:2. Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
Romans 11:17. And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, were grafted in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree;
Ironically, the wild grafted branch continues to bear the same expected fruit. (See also Jews Vs gentiles)
Do not be spiritually lazy.
The scriptures warn against being Spiritually lazy. Furthermore, each and every one of us is called to bear fruit.
In Matthew 25:14-30 Jesus Christ gives a parable about a man and three servants. As he was about to travel afar off, he gave them his goods. He gave the first servant five talents, the second one got two talents while the third got one talent. Additionally, each servant was given talents according to his ability. This means that none of the servants was overburdened. The one who received five talents traded and received five more talents. Likewise, the one who received two talents gained two more.
It wasn’t the same for the one who got one talent. He didn’t invest or trade but instead buried the talent into the ground and hid it. When the man came back, he recompensed each servant according to how much work and profit he had received. It didn’t go well with the servant who didn’t labor. His one and only talent was taken away from him and given to the one who had ten talents. He was then cast out into outer darkness. The man preferred that the lazy servant to deposit the talent into a bank where interest could have been earned.
Today be encouraged to become a partaker with Christ, a co-worker with Him. For there is plenty of harvest but the workers are few (Luke 10:2)
Luke 10:2. Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.
